Yesterday's Challenge

Yesterday's challenge was a little tough for me. Why? because I was being selfish. I'd had my torture, I mean massage, and wasn't reacting well to the effects of that plus the prednisone I've been on to get my asthma back under control. Poor Tom, calls me as I'm in traffic, after having gotten sick at the massage place, wanting me to bid on something for his bike. I was little grumpy. Of course the poor guy had NO WAY of knowing why I was grumpy. On top of it, it was Tom's hospital visitation night.

We had several visits to make, so off we went. The first one, once again was sweet Mary. She was happy to see us, and we to see her. The second was not only a difficult one to visit, but getting to her was like going through prison security. Took us longer to get in to see her, than it took for us to pray over her and her room mate. The next two were contrasts. First was a gentleman that Tom and I had seen for a number of years at our church, and bless his heart, he is on comfort care, meaning his time on this planet is coming to an end. This visit was difficult for me, as the gentleman was exhibiting the 'signs' that my Father-in-love did as he was passing. Next was a lady that was recovering from surgery, and doing quite well, and looking forward to going home today. Our final visit was a two in one at a local nursing home, and the first gentleman is always glad to see us. He's a neat, neat man. Our final visit was with the mother of a friend, that we've known for many years, and it was a long visit, as she had lots to share and lots of prayer requests.

I'm so thankful for Tom's spirit during the visits. He is an example of respect and kindess to those who need a listening ear, or just a smile of encouragement. Watching him, during visitation reminded me that it's not about me, but about showing God's love to others through me. For that I'm grateful.
